Summer School – Course Offerings 2017

2017 COURSE OFFERINGS

IN-CLASS COURSES

Cooperative Education (1 or 2 credit)

Current Grades 10,11, and 12 students

Cooperative education provides a high school credit program that combines academic study with practical work experience.

  • Earn a Co-op credit while getting paid!
  • Count Hours towards your SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major)
  • Complete a 15 hour pre-placement package
  • Attend a mandatory in-school day on July 4, 2017
  • Work 95 hours (1 credit) or 190 hours (2 credits) in a job of your choice
  • Complete the weekly and final projects

Key Dates:

  • Last week of June – Pre-placement package
  • Mandatory In-School Session – Tuesday, July 4, 2017
  • Work placement – 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – July 5 – July 28, 2017
  • Note: Individual arrangements will be made with students wanting to
    complete a 2 credit co-op.
Credit Recovery
  • Open to students in Grades 9 – 12 who have, within the last two years (2015-2016 or 2016-2017), completed an Ontario curriculum course for which they have received a failing grade. Students who have withdrawn from a course are not eligible to recover it through the credit recovery process.
  • Credit Recovery classes take place Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Students must work with their home school guidance office to ensure that their Failure Analysis Form is submitted to Peggy Hurrell by fax 705-324-9773 by June 28, 2017
  • Credit recovery requests for non-English or math subjects will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Key Dates:

  • Failure Analysis Form must be submitted by June 28, 2017 (see above)
  • English Credit Recovery – July 4 – July 14, 2017
  • Math Credit Recovery – July 17 – July 27, 2017

ONLINE COURSES

Need a more flexible option?

TLDSB’s online opportunities will allow you to take a course from any location where you have a reliable, high-speed internet connection.

The following full credit courses will be oered online: (Select 1 only – pre-requisites apply)

  • Math – MAP4C, MDM4U, MHF4U
  • English – ENG3/4C, ENG3/4U

Dates: Monday to Friday from July 4 to July 27, 2017
Hours: 8:30 – 2:30

Live sessions: 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Remaining mandatory course hours are completed asynchronously.

Exams: July 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
You MUST be available to write exams on the scheduled day

The following half credit Gr. 10 courses will be offered online:

  • Careers (GLC2O) English
  • Careers (GLC2O) French

EACH EXAM – July 27, 2017

Dates: Monday to Friday from July 4 to July 27, 2017
Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Live sessions: 8:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
Remaining mandatory course hours are completed asynchronously.

Exams: July 27 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

You MUST be available to write exams on the scheduled day.

  • Civics (CHV20) English
  • Civics (CHV20) French

Dates: Monday to Friday from July 4 to July 27, 2017
Hours: 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Live sessions: 11:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.
Remaining mandatory course hours are completed asynchronously.
Exams: July 27 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

You MUST be available to write exams on the scheduled day

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there a fee to attend summer school?

There is no cost to the student for summer school programs. However, a system access deposit of $50.00 is required for online courses. This is fully refunded upon successful completion of the course.

Is transportation provided?

No, transportation is not provided. Parents are responsible for transporting their students to summer school.

How do I register?

Visit www.tldsb.ca and look for the “Summer School Registration” link on the home page. Registration for online courses is completed through your school guidance department.
